For those of you who haven't yet had the pleasure, you must try out these amazing products by Australian brand: Aesop. Established in Melbourne in 1987, Aesop is well known for its facial, body and hair products that are rigorously eco friendly  and contain only carefully selected natural ingredients. Aesop's Milanese stores are in keeping with Aesop's simple yet retro image looking more like an alchemist's laboratory than beauty stores.Aesop's Piazza del Carmine store is located in an old 'salumeria' whose sign is still above the door, while its most recent addition in Via Meravigli opposite "Pasticceria Marchesi" sports ceramic tiles and pale green cabinets. As with all of Aesop's stores there is a large ceramic sink which allows you to try out all of their products making it almost impossible to leave the shop empty handed. Personally I'm a fan of Aesop's Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm which you can even use on your feet - divine.

Broken a strap on your Rene Cavovilla's? Need to stretch your Jimmy Choo's? Or need to re-sole, re-heal, stitch, repair anything from your Church's to your latest Zara find? Yes? Then pedal round to Alvisi as fast as your bike will carry you. No job is too big or too small for this artisinal workshop conveniently placed a few doors down from Marotin (so you can get a quick coffee and pastry in after your bike ride). Alvisi is definitely one of the best cobblers in Milan and is used by most of the shoe shops in the Quadrilatero to carry out repairs. Alvisi has also completely re-built several old pairs of our Church's and rendered them as good as new. Ask for an estimate beforehand, however, as re-soling is not cheap but if it adds an extra 10 years to a pair of classic shoes it's cheaper than buying a new pair. Alvisi re-soles Tricker's, John Lobb's and Church's with original soles, whether they are rubber or leather, allowing you to choose between studded, golfer or commando soles. The choices are endless.  Alvisi also stocks a wide range of shoe polishes, creams, brushes, shoe trees and shoe kits which make great presents. If you need any advice regarding shoe care and cleaning all you have to do is ask and the staff are happy to advise you.

Run out of present ideas? Desperately searching for an original birthday, anniversary or Christmas present? Well look no further! Mini Mondo 3D is the answer. Mini Mondo 3D specialises in 3D printing, but has come up with a fantastic gift idea: Mini-Me. A 3D ceramic replica of you on your own or together with your loved ones... or even just your beloved pet. You can choose one of three different sizes: 9cm, 12cm or 18.5cm. So armed with my two children and a hairbrush (to tame their wild locks), we made our way to Mini Mondo 3D's shop just round the corner from the Università Statale di Milano in search of the perfect anniversary gift for my husband. There we were led into a little photo booth and encouraged to form various poses, much to my children's amusement, while Mini Mondo's computer scanned us. Several days later we were sent a selection of images to choose from, after which we just had to wait several weeks to see the finished product. The result was a very realistic mini version of my two children and I, which now has pride of place on my husband's desk at work! If you feel too embarrassed to be scanned, then why not have one of your children's 2D works of art made into a 3D coloured sculpture. "Mini Artista" allows parents to have a child's masterpiece made into a 10cm sculpture, although beware, they are printed in chalk powder which is fixed using an adhesive so they are not child proof.Prices for these little gems aren't cheap - Mini-Me's range from €100 to €400 depending on height and number of figures -but the result is a unique lasting memory that will bring you joy for years to come.
